Got asked "how happy are you" in my performance review today. (I'm doing well, apparently, so it was about retention.) I answered honestly, and got a follow-up about how my experience could be better. How can you *actually* be honest about that? Like, "I'd like to disregard all business goals, work only on my own projects, work only when I want, and I would like my pay to continue to grow, but faster." Even if that's true, you don't *say* that to your supervisor.
@freemo you know, you're probably right...she hasn't been my supervisor for all that long though, (I think we saw each other once in person, and we don't really even do video calls{ so I'm cautious about that kind-of thing until we get to know each other better..
@2ck most people would be cautious, its natural. But chances are youll find out it probably wasnt necessary :)
@2ck those are pretty hefty demands. I'd settle for not being made to rush through projects because mgmt writes checks they can't cash and a cost of living increase every year.
@thewismit been there. are you in a large company? If you are, and the dysfunction isn't at the top, you may be able to move around and find better. Or you can become management.
@thewismit well, been there on mgmt having overly aggressive timelines for technical resources. where I work, pay is actually really good.
@2ck small company 2k ish acquired by larger 20k ish. Unfortunately the company that acquired us is the problem and in a diff country. So I get new, crappy mgmt and not change in ability to move.
@2ck I'd say it, and I think most supervisors would just laugh if you did honestly.
