That second shot of the #Moderna vaccine hit me pretty hard. Aches and soreness all over since last night through today. Happily it's clearing up this evening -- MFer's got sh*t to do.
@ew Did you have the Moderna vaccine? How was it for you? I had heard the second dose would have a stronger reaction, but I thought I would just shrug it off. The reaction is my immune system working, so I'm glad of that 😁
@ew why do you think it isn't dangerous? It has killed hundreds of thousands of people.
@ew why do you believe that?
@ew how do you believe such determinations of death from Covid-19 are actually made? Like, on a process level, when does the diagnosis occur, and what are the steps that lead medical professionals to list Covid-19 infection as a contributing factor to a death?
@ew do you have a primary source from the CDC on that? I've seen a similar assertion, and I think it comes from a misunderstanding of CDC data here https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid_weekly/index.htm?fbclid=IwAR3xvPBE9Q6NXcwqMIGtg439k100XtMfvy-9YBimKZMOSSRpCwiitPLS3vs#Comorbidities
The fact that there's a comorbidity with Covid-19 doesn't mean that the death would have happened regardless of Covid-19 infection. It's like, if you had someone who was unsteady on their feet and standing near the edge of a cliff when someone pushed them over the edge: sure, it's possible the unsteady person still would have fallen over the edge, but being pushed sure didn't raise the likelihood of a fatal fall.
@ew it's true that we can't remove the covid-19 infection and re-run the past year without it, but doctors and researchers have learned about the way the disease affects the body and can make reasonably strong inferences about how the disease would contribute to serious illness and, in some cases, death.
Your statement about age-adjusted death rate doesn't agree with CDC data, which does show an increase. That number is only a starting place though.

@ew I'm not clear on your assertion, but excess deaths are what's being reported for Covid-19 by the CDC and health departments. Looking at totals obscures that somewhat.
Anyway, the disease makes people sick, and kills some people. That's why so much of the world has changed... Although I guess there are alternative interpretations of the world's ongoing response to the virus, the most straightforward explanation is that a deadly pandemic has covered the globe. 🤷
So, getting vaccinated is a concrete thing I can do to prevent people I know and work with from getting sick. Besides, the aches and pains suck, but if they were caused by a self-replicating machine that was destroying my cells, I imagine that would suck more. Good luck
