@schratze

I think that you are right and it makes sense.

@Acer @schratze Fun English Fact/Explination:

There is a part of speech called a "gerund" which is when a verb is used as a noun, in English this is done by adding -ing to the verb and slotting it into a noun slot: "They implemented dynamic detecting."

Here the verb "to detect" was modified into gerund form to "detecting" to be used as the noun direct object for the thing they implemented.

The confusing bit is that -ing is also used as the suffix to indicate that a verb is ongoing or in process: "They are dynamically detecting things."

Here the verb suffix -ing is indicating that they have not completed the task of detection.

So, if the verb is being used in gerund form it acts exactly like a noun, using adjectives, but if it is being used for the imperfect or continuous tenses, then it is being used as a verb and so adverbs should be used.

I know this is probably way too much explanation, but hopefully it helps illustrate that while English seems like a language composed entirely of exceptions, there is at least some vague structure to the madness.

@hakerdefo @Acer @schratze The joke is that I don't learn things because I want to, but because if I hear about something, even tangentially, not delving into that rabbit hole is almost physically painful.

That is to say, I haven't built up this skill set through years of careful training, instead I have the skills I have through this compulsion to learn things that I have vary little control over at this point.

It is also a quote from the British television show "Staged" where David Tennant says it to describe his nervous habit of spelling words backwards in his head.
