Hey fediverse, my teenager finally expressed an interest in something: hardware hacking. Does anyone have advice on how to get a kid started with understanding electronics? (He's a big DankPods fan, which is I'm sure where he got this itch.) Any suggestions welcome. Thank you! #HardwareHacking #HackingForTeens

@spiegelmama Hey @Blenster .. You’d be the one I'd go to for advice.. Care to drop some for this awesome parent who wants to support her child?

@XenoPhage @spiegelmama getting an Arduino kit and learning how electronics work is a good start. If they do enough of the projects in The Arduino Cookbook they will begin to recognize various sensors and signals.

After that a multimeter and an oscilloscope are good tools to explore various electronics to see what's happening.

@Blenster @XenoPhage Ah, great book suggestion. We have a multimeter (from an old school project), but I bet he'd like an oscilloscope. Thanks for the ideas!

@spiegelmama @XenoPhage after they get to using an oscope they can look for serial data, SPI, and I2C (some scopes can read this themselves).
