Okay folks--just saw a Le Monde report on it saying 90 dead; did a search and The Deccan said the updated figure is 95. But here's NHK saying it's 111.

Something that makes me go HMMMM.

Doesn't it always take time to sort things out in the chaos following an earthquake? It may be days before authorities know who just wasn't home & who's under the rubble.

Excellent point, Nazani...which is why the choice, usually, is to believe the count published by the big news entity closest to the area, which would be NHK--Le Monde, not so much.

But you're so right--it's best to wait til the dust settles and a headcount actually done before jumping to conclusions...but that raises the question of how believable China Official count is.

@ClaraListensprechen4
I wouldn't take anything China puts out at face value. Some years ago a school collapsed during an earthquake due to shoddy construction. The state doesn't like stories like that.
