Gun violence, police, LMPD

Here's a statement that may upset folks. You can unfollow me if it bothers you.

Part 1. I am a civilian employee of the Louisville Metro Police Department. Yes, we've had some absolute idiots drag the department down into the muck over the last few years. (PLEASE DO NOT MENTION BREONNA TAYLOR'S CASE TO ME. I'VE HEARD IT ALL) But I hear & see a lot of the stories that the rest of the world doesn't. I've helped officers build a Habitat for Humanity house...

Gun violence, police, LMPD

Part 4

There will be tears. There will also be the telling of stories of the injured officer's exploits, in the hopes of inducing laughter. We just buried an officer last week. I pray we don't have to do it again this soon.

Just remember, most people run away from active shooters. Police run toward them. They are people & not all of them are bad. They'll risk their lives to protect yours, missing holidays & family time. Thank a cop. Any cop.

@LunarLioness814 I appreciate your viewpoint, but disagree. Until police recognize that their occupation isn't even one of the top 10 most dangerous professions, and things like commercial fishermen and landscaping are far more dangerous, their fears fall on deaf ears with me. They treat civilians as the enemy. They have what, twice the instance of domestic violence than other people? And then claim immunity. Yes, there are good police officers. There are good people in any large enough group. ANY. But the way they interact with the public, violating civil rights, destroying the futures of people... building a habitat house or delivering food to the elderly just doesn't compensate. I will never again trust the police. I look at them as a credible threat, no matter what the situation. Too many bad apples.

@JonKramer Thank you for taking the time to thoughtfully state your opinion instead of just putting me on blast. Growing up in the South, I'm all too familiar with bad police. In fact, I had a fairly jaundiced view of LMPD until I wound up working there. I still do, in some regards. The critically injured officer today had been on the street all of 3 weeks, IIRC. And he's a youngster. I think that is what's bothering me the most.

@LunarLioness814 I feel you there. It's hard to see a guy with no history of malfeasance, and so young, catch the bad luck he did. My best hope is he rethinks his career. Before he becomes what his seniors are.
