People keep @'ing me claiming that Musk spent $44 billion to destroy Twitter> i.e., that he is deliberately tanking the company.

I guess anything is possible, but I've seen absolutely nothing that supports that theory is true.

Perhaps if it does get destroyed he'll retcon that as an explanation, but I do not buy that he deliberately set billions of dollars on fire like that.

@mmasnick he's getting paid. My theory is he's tanking turdsite.... But his money will be made back as he's sells the user data (especially dissident data for authoritarian regimes) to dictators via shell companies. Then we'll see said dictators put down entire dissident networks wiped out. Not to mention the lists created here can be used by US white terrorists as well.

@antonioserrata @mmasnick That would require an order of magnitude more competence than we've seen from Musk so far... if there was even that much money being offered, which there almost certainly isn't.

@LouisIngenthron @mmasnick I think this is the goal. It's not about mere competence. It's about malicious incompetence. Taking the company down quick too sell the assets off to recoup his money. The data (Us) is worth immensely more to malicious actors all whom actively court musk regularly and he has contact with. See Putin, Xi (for various Tesla components). He already threatened to shut down Starlink after his call with Putin. Now Twitter, taking Ii t down helps authoritarians mostly.

@antonioserrata @mmasnick That makes no sense at all.
(A) the company's assets are worth tons more pre-dismantling.
(B) If he wanted to maliciously sell the data, then the absolute last thing he'd want to do is anything that might drive people away from the platform, since users entering their data willfully is the entire point.

@LouisIngenthron @mmasnick And yet he brags about talking to Putin, has significant business ties to China, both nations who would benefit greatly from the data to destroy dissident networks. Oh and let's not forget Saudi Arabia. IF things were on the up and up, you'd be right. But his ties to Jefferey Epstein also shouldn't be overlooked as "leverage" over him. NONE of what he is doing now makes sense until seen through a "leveraged" lens.

@antonioserrata @mmasnick It makes perfect sense when viewed through the lens of ego and incompetence, which is 100% Occam's Razor here.

That he hobnobs with other rich assholes does not a conspiracy make.

@LouisIngenthron @mmasnick Weird then he ran Tesla and SpaceX just fine, Paypal before that and the Boring Company is still newish, but then Twitter runs it into the ground in record time? He's not only hobnobbing with rich assholes, he's in direct communications with dictators. That IS a national security threat in itself given his 2 of his companies are government contractors.

@antonioserrata There's ample evidence that those companies ran well *despite* him, not because of him.
Tesla/SpaceX even have policies in place to insulate employees from their "leader".

You can keep pretending he's some mastermind if you want, but the rest of us see the emperor standing naked and we're not afraid to call it out for what it is.
