When it comes to energy, wind and solar are the only sensible bet. Nuclear and CCS just aren’t going to cut it, and the evidence is substantial. We need the simple options that work WITH our environment, not the complex & expensive technologies that reflect the same extractive/exploitative attitudes as fossil fuels. There’s a huge amount of helpful information in this IPCC graphic (full version here: ipcc.ch/report/ar6/wg3/figures , Guardian article here: theguardian.com/environment/20 ). #energy #climate

@helenczerski How exactly does nuclear not cut emissions as well as wind/solar? Neither link addresses that.

@LouisIngenthron @helenczerski nuclear has other, well understood downsides, including water pollution - by heat if nothing else. Germany is pleased to announce that nuclear energy was a historical mistake, and they are past that phase with all of their nuclear plants completely shut down. Gibt Acht!

@indyradio Heat can be reclaimed and reused.

Nuclear is more efficient than wind/solar in many ways, especially land usage, and both options produce non-biodegradable waste.

I just want to know what exactly causes nuclear to have less potential contribution to net emission reduction when nuclear is an emission-free option.

@LouisIngenthron The way the numbers are run is what I speculate. I gave my answer about the larger picture previously. There are other reasons to be rid of nuclear, good ones, and that's a long discussion in itself, unless you predisposed to agree.
