#MUD video games are some of the earliest "gaming" found on the internet.

If you aren't familiar, they would often have pre-formated text and the system operated very "ask and answer".

{{ You see a Goblin Camp before you }}
> attack goblins
{{ you attack the Goblin Camp with your Wooden Sword and do 5HP of damage }}

You know... real nail biting action-driven combat.

I'm curious with the advent of ActivityPub, are there any MUD-like projects?

@mentallyalex That's an interesting idea. Would be pretty easy to put together a proof of concept. The real question is: would everyone on ActivityPub be controlling the same save file (kind of like the "Twitch plays" series), or does each account have their own game?

@mentallyalex So, originally, I spent days going down a very long road (creating a custom Mastodon server to run games) that turned out to be a bit fruitless.
This afternoon, I tried a different approach (creating a custom Mastodon client to run games through a regular user account) and got it working in just hours. 🤦‍♂️

To test it, I hooked it up with the simplest game I knew, and a basic menu.

Now that I have the framework, I can try making more complex games. I'm going to start with tic tac toe next, followed by chess, followed by multiplayer support. Then I should have enough infrastructure to attempt something with a narrative.
