Dozens of US states, in a federal court complaint filed in California, sue Meta Platforms and its Instagram unit, accusing them of contributing to a youth mental health crisis, alleging the public was misled about the substantial dangers of the social media platforms and knowingly induced young children and teenagers into addictive and compulsive use.
@w7voa Are they also suing Dungeons & Dragons and Rock & Roll music?
@LouisIngenthron @w7voa No, because those are positive influences in society and have not been directly tied to mental health issues in peer-reviewed medical journals. First citation found after 5 seconds on DuckDuckGo: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31509167/
@bhawthorne @w7voa Oh, please. Literally anything will give you mental health issues if you don't have enough self-control to use it in moderation. Look at sports and how toxic people get over that. Nobody is trying to sue the NFL for mental anguish.
@jamesmarshall @bhawthorne @w7voa Citation?
