I'm going to make it really easy for everyone:
1. Calling the Jews "Settler Colonialists" denies that they are native to the region. It's a way to deny Jews their homeland by de-legitimizing Israel.
2. Calling it a genocide is a deliberate misstatements of facts, since the word "genocide" has specific and direct meaning. It's a means of demonizing Israel.
3. Calling for the destruction (or "forced reformation" of Israel to any other country formation through non-democratic means is directly calling for the death of 7 million (or half the world's) Jews.
These are antisemitic. Period.
@serge What is the proper term for actions taken that, on purpose or accidentally, effectively destroy an entire nation of people? (And I'm considering Gaza separate from the West Bank, just like Yemen and Oman are separate, etc.)
There are ~2 million Gazans, and even if you believe Hama's propaganda- which greatly exaggerates the number and is not a source of good information, the lives lost in Gaza are ~5,000. Even if they were 10,000, this would not be a mass genocide.
In addition, genocide is a deliberate act. If Israel wanted, it could indiscriminately bomb and destroy Gaza. It doesn't do that.
War is awful. War is disgusting. War is inhumane. People lost in war is tragic. Innocent civilians hurt or killed in war is even more tragic, but that is not genocide. That is the horrors of war.
The term genocide does not apply, period, end stop and the use of the word genocide, while not directly Nazi inversion, is very close to Nazi inversion.
@serge @emilyk Israel is starving them out, preventing clean water, medicine, and food from getting in (a war crime). According to reporting, the hospitals are now using makeshift medicine, like vinegar as disinfectant. All this to a population that is half children.
What do you call that, if not genocide?
If your main point is that they haven't murdered enough civilians *yet* to count as a genocide, you might not have the moral upper hand you think you do.
@LouisIngenthron @serge @emilyk
Is Egypt also committing genocide?
@simmer Not that I'm aware of, but if they're doing the things I described above, then yes.
@simmer Really? Because Egypt is working with the US government to provide aid, but they're delayed by Israel shelling the border.
That you are comparing mass murder with a (fictitious) failure to provide humanitarian aid is disgusting. And your projection about "dearth of knowledge" and "antisemitism" is telling.
Grow a sense of self-awareness before criticizing others.
@LouisIngenthron
Oy...
My point is that Israel can't unilaterally starve Gaza because Gaza also borders Egypt. So anything being kept out of Gaza is being kept out by Israel and Egypt.
Why do people with such dearth of knowledge about this situation feel so comfortable telling others how it is? Is this like engineer's disease? Maybe it goes straight back to antisemitism. You tell me!
