If you asked me what's wrong with the entire frontend ecosystem in 2023 I'd say..

"I have spent the last two days trying to run Webpack in this monorepo, and I still don't know how" :blobcatshrug2:

..is a pretty good example.

Perhaps I'm just "remarkably untalented" :shibathinking:

From the post:
> "most of software dev is pretty bad, [but web dev] is unique in degree: the web experience is so much worse, on average, and so much more dysfunctional than even the most mundane shitty native app that most people have access to"

And the part that hit too close to home given my recent joust with the whiteboard interview crowd¹:

> “We need to base our app on React because the only way for us to realistically scale up recruitment is with a popular framework… No, we aren’t hiring." 💀

But it's not React, we are complicit, we are the ones prioritizing DevEx over UX. UX, if it even exists, is an afterthought for all but a small minority².

Anyhow, go read the full post.

(addendum: I **am** remarkably untalented, in more ways than one! But 99% of the time what webdev (or really, any software dev) requires is grit, sheer determination, blood, sweat and tears to work through the mountain of undocumented, half-broken crap that's out there. And no, they are not half-broken and undocumented because the creators were "remarkably untalented", either)

@flaki Hence why so many of us rebel and go for straight HTML/VanillaJS.
