The major lesson of 2023 is how terrible big tech leaders actually are at running organizations post-boom times of zero interest rates.

From Elon Musk & Steve Huffman going to war with their users to the callous waves of layoffs and pseudo-layoffs (return to office or get fired even if it means moving) and now OpenAI's board firing their CEO in a scandalous manner over internal political struggles.

No one knows what the heck they are doing even when there's billions of dollars on the line.

@carnage4life What's remarkable isn't that start ups and much of the tech industry are scams (that was always obvious on a practical level if one wasn't indoctrinated), it's just how fast the grift cycle is currently happening and the total embrace of the investment world as running purely on MLM/pyramid scheme principals.

@fifilamoura @carnage4life Depends on how you define "much of the tech industry". If you're talking about the big boys who get pumped full of money by VCs, yeah, that might be true. But there's a sea of us little guys who are genuinely trying to make life better with technology, and based on pure numbers, we're the majority.
