Is there something out there that explains TikTok?
Are they always short videos?

#AlexIsOld

@mentallyalex From what I understand, it's YouTube for the youngs, kind of like how The History Channel is YouTube for the olds.

@LouisIngenthron So like, I could make a "TikTok" channel and begin publishing my indepth takes on various laundry detergents and other things and people would engage with me similarly to how they do here on Mastodon?

So like, video/audio Mastodon but not federated and owned by some dark cabal in China?

@mentallyalex I think you technically could, but the audience there has a pretty short attention span, so shorter content tends to thrive.

That said, I'm only relying on third-hand tales from the generation ambassadors; I haven't been there myself.

@LouisIngenthron :ablobcatnod: I get it. I think.

So Instagram was too professional so they needed something more casual. Less corporate... an app that uses profanity and double dips its french fries. :blobcatgiggle:

@mentallyalex Yeah, or YouTube and Twitch got too full of millenials and was therefore de facto uncool and Tik Tok just achieved critical mass among teens first.

@LouisIngenthron 🤔

I'm curious which one is more sticky for content...
