Chromium, the browser engine used by Google’s Chrome and Microsoft’s Edge browsers, will soon support micropayments via the Web Monetization specification.
The hope is that enabling users to directly support sites this way will be an alternative to ads and $5-$15/month paywalls.

The real hope is that Google can take a cut of that while their search business falters.
