Dear #KDE #Debian for f***'s sake why does the en_GB locale for measurement think the UK uses Imperial? I'm over 50 and I've always used metric and I don't want any of this inch crap.

Also I don't want a comma as my thousand separator either... but that's another pain in the arse.

@drajt Not that you should have to use it, but what would happen if you used an en_CA locale (assuming CA is correct for Canada)? I know they do not use the Imperial system and haven't done so for a good 50 years. However they probably do use the comma as the thousands separator, don't know what you can do about that.

@Lunatech Strangely if I tell it I'm in Jersey or Isle of Man I can have metric.... Which is really odd.

@Lunatech Thousand separator is supposed to be a space in most of Europe so the comma and dot don't get confused when crossing borders. No one does it, but I do as it's one less thing to deal with when switching between French and English.

I think I'll just go with Jersey or Guernsey, I can keep my £ symbol as well... but put up with the thousand separator.

@drajt There probably is a config file somewhere that defines the thousands separator for various locales but I have no idea which file that might be. Anyway I am glad you found at least as partial solution, though it is weird that they still think parts of Britain still use imperial measurements. At least you guys actually made the switch to metric; in the USA we still use miles, yards, feet, inches, gallons (but U.S. gallons), quarts, pints, etc. Oh, and temperatures in Farenheit. Certain professions and industries use metric (for example the medical profession) but many have not made the switch.

@Lunatech Yes, I grew up under the metrication plan and spent all my life using only metric units. I did spend three years in the US and was utterly bamboozled by the use of non-metric units that weren't quite Imperial...

The fruit looks in the UK want to go back to Imperial, without realising that it would cause utter chaos for manufacturing as most things in the UK are now metric and there are only a few left overs that are too entrenched to change.

@drajt I am sorry to hear that. I think in the USA we are very slowly coming to the realization that if we want to build things for the world market we need to fully switch to metric, but we have too many stupid people here who think the metric system is some kind of communist plot or something for it to happen anytime soon. It would be a shame if you guys went backwards on that but in the world we live in today nothing would surprise me.
