@lil5 @unix_discussions @charadon Just wish #LinuxMint would let you pick wish apps to install while setting up a new installation. They tend to instally everything but the kitchen sink by default, and if you are setting up a Linux box for one or two particular purposes you may not need all that bloat. In fact even if you are using it as a normal desktop system it still installs a lot of stuff you don't need.
@Lunatech@qoto.org @lil5@fosstodon.org @unix_discussions@mastodon.social Well, ya know, we have a linux mint that lets you pick and choose what you want, it's called a minimal install of Debian =P
Getting a desktop going from a minimal install of debian is actually extremely easy, easier than arch i'd argue.
@charadon @lil5 @unix_discussions You are probably correct, however #LinuxMint users seem to think that a big appeal of Mint is that it is so easy to use and that everything just works, while in the past the same could not be said of #Debian. However from what I am reading lately I think Debian may be catching up and some people are saying that the next version will be an especially good one, so when that comes out I may give the minimal install version of it a try.

Exactly my biggest desire for the "perfect" LinuxMint, if they would chain with an Arch-linke install approach. Some people don't even want or need things like libreoffice or firefox, what's among the biggest chunk in an install 😉
