This is the first year since I heard of #NaNoWriMo that I made a conscious and intentional decision not to take part.
I don't have anything to prove to myself anymore, never had anything to prove to anyone else, and don't need of an arbitrary deadline to motivate me.
This isn't a criticism of NaNo. I did it for years, enjoyed it, learned from it. If NaNo is right for you, good! Write on.
But if you are doing NaNo because you feel like you 'should', maybe it's time to take a step back.

@jessmahler I just need to write. I haven't done enough of that. I need to actually write a more complete story. I have at least half a dozen stories which I wrote two or three chapters in. With NaNoWriMo this year I want to get a full story in.
