A Small tortoiseshell butterfly visiting Grape hyacinth (Muscari) flowers on the allotment. This picture is from a few years ago, I have not seen any Small tortoiseshell butterflies so far, just a few Peacock and Brimstone #butterflies. #spring #insects

Funnily enough, I saw my first Small tortoiseshell of the year feeding on a forsythia bush, the other day. I also spotted an early Brimstone about a week ago.

It's still rather cold here in Luxembourg with a sharp frost most nights; the days however are warming up nicely with double figure temperature most days and 20°C if the the sun comes out!

Today there's a clear blue sky and loads of sun!

@Paulos_the_fog That is nice! It is surprising you saw the Small tortoiseshell feeding on forsythia as the flowers contain hardly any pollen and nectar, but they do look quite nice, a bit of colour, maybe that is what the butterfly thought as well ;-). It is not as warm here as where you are and nights are quite chilly, so hopefully more butterflies will appear once it gets warmer.
