If, like me, you are increasingly frustrated at the lack of easily accessible ATMs - my local market town only has two (both in #supermarkets) that unless you know where they are would be pretty difficult to locate - then here is the data behind the progressive withdrawal of cash machines on our high streets & another element of the banks strategy to push into #electronic payments where they skim off a % as part of the UK's dysfunctional rentier #capitalism
@ChrisMayLA6 I haven't used cash, and therefore haven't needed a cash machine, since the before times. Since when I've changed bank accounts, and I don't even know where I wrote down the PIN for my new cash card.
Ha ha, I still use a chequebook... I'm living in the past, clearly 😉
I have lived in Belgium and Luxembourg since 1999 and I have never had a cheque book nor has such a thing been available to me!
The last sort of cheque in existence in Luxembourg; the counter cheque drawn by the bank to pay for such things as cars, ceased to exist at the beginning of last year!
Banks in Britain have always been behind the leaders in technology by 10 years or more. When I was living in France in 1990, I was paying for most things with a debit/credit card that had a chip and pin rather than being associated with a multi-part paper slip and a signature. The first chip & pin cards only appear in Britain in 2003!
