I’m not remotely surprised by this.
I won’t deny people the right to own a car (I have two), but few really need things this size. They take up too much space on the road, whether parked or on the move; and obstruct forward visibility for vehicles travelling behind them. I find them a nuisance in the city.

Living in Luxembourg; an SUV paradise, I find the most annoying thing about them is that most of their drivers seem to be wholly incompetent! I live out in the country and I am sufficiently aware of the width of the car I drive (a Ford Mondeo) that I can accurately place my nearside wheels in the gutter and feel them rumbling over the cobbles they use to pave gutters here. The bulk of SUV drivers will respond by placing the obscenely large massively polluting vehicles smack in the middle of the road risking pushing me right off the road onto the fücking pavement!
