German chancellor Merkel and health minister Spahn today confirmed they're expecting 60 to 70% of the country's population to eventually be infected by #corona.

At the currently estimated mortality rate of 3.45% that would mean close to two million dead people in Germany alone.

Of course we still have too little data to confirm that mortality rate in Germany.

@fribbledom isn't that the percentage from the whole population? Elderly people and young children have a significantly higher mortality rate than the rest of the population.

@PunaisetPimpulat

They are. Actually the risk increases with age. Young children are the safest as of now.

@fribbledom Yeah, you're right. I just took a better look at the available data and children seem to be fairly safe after all. Therefore it would seem that there's no reason to close down schools at the moment.

@PunaisetPimpulat

That'd be a huge fallacy. It's not about preventing the kids from getting sick, it's about slowing the rapid growth.

@fribbledom @PunaisetPimpulat so far, there is little corelation with density of population. Megacities like taiwan , tokyio or calcutta so far did not show the explosive behavior they should.

Being honest, numbers are so crazy you can't decide a strategy...
