- Scalping: a British officer invented it as proof a Native American killed French troops/settlers during the Seven Years War
- In the Congo Free State, a conscripted soldier had to produce a hacked off hand for every bullet he used or he'd be beaten for it; no using bullets to hunt so you didn't starve
- Judging POC by skin tone ("lighter is smarter/better") and making POC adopt that standard
