The article starts with an assertion that the federalist (and anti federalist) papers prove the nation was all united in principle. But wasn't that two sides writing in opposition to each other, not in unity with each other?
The article ends with :
An uneasy co-existence, not coerced unity, is the only hope for calm in our country.
Respectful disunity is the only way forward.
I agree with the repulsion of coercion, but wouldn't respectful disunity describe the federalist and anti federalist days also? Agree to be respectful and engaged with each other, while retaining differing ideas?
I wonder if the bigger difference is that we shout emotions, scare quotes and insults today rather than exchanging ideas like the (anti) federalist papers attempted to do.
