I keep hearing media outlets using the term “wokeism”.
I have not heard once, not once, what the fuck that word means. Do you think maybe they could spend a three minute segment on defining it, and interviewing those in the know? Please oh please I would love journalism to do it’s duty to educate the public on the arcane language they use.
Here's what I think:
"Woke" is a word made up by and used exclusively by fascists.
It refers to the emotion generated by the ideas of liberation of oppressed people, in toto. It explicitly does not directly address any of those liberatory acts (rights to personal expression eg. trans, queer, gay, non-trad het, whatever) but blurs them into a very flexible, variable group.
It's right-wing coinage and we do their job even referring to it. I used to the word once, and once too many.
I learned this lesson 30 years ago, from a member of a group called the Plutonium Players, a radical theatre group out of Berkelet, 1970s. They did LADIES AGAINST WOMEN and other hilarious parody political events.
Their stated methodology was to *force observers/journalists to describe what they were seeing*, intentionally opposed to saying 'protest by leftists from Berkeley' -- because as soon as you hear 'protester' you categorize the act in a prefab manner.
Don't fight w---- opponents. Instead point out specific acts -- describe them in ordinary language.
Putting political coinages into circulation is a major and successful right wing tool.
Dems/lefties are TERRIBLE at this. Biden's "Dark Brandon" was a good one. And so rare.
Imho, educated folks get too hung up on words and meaning and correctness. It will be our downfall (lol, I'm not that educated... take that as you will).
Sling words as weapons, fuck with meaning, and abandon meaning. Fuck correctness. No it won't cause the collapse of civilization, that's in our hearts, not in institutions.
@SpinozasHeresy What is means is both nothing, and everything that offends the user’s radical sensibilities. It’s a catchall term calculated to push the outrage button of like-minded zealots.
@SpinozasHeresy I'm old enough to remember when that BS was called being politically correct and it was undefined then as well.
