Due to the expected rise in electricity consumption during the summer, lights will be turned off in order to conserve power. This is because there is a deficit of 1.5 gigawatts of power that should have been replaced by thermal power plants, but DTEK does not want to burn coal to make up for the deficit as they have issues with coal production and would not have enough time to accumulate coal before winter. This was stated by Yuriy Korolchuk, energy expert and co-founder of the Energy Strategy Foundation.
