Latvian President Edgards Rinkevičs has suggested closing the Baltic Sea to Russia, according to LSM. He proposes this action as a potential response if it is confirmed that the Russian Federation was involved in the incidents affecting the Balticconnector gas pipeline and the Finnish-Estonian communication cable.

Rinkevičs stated, 'It can be done. Ships can be stopped. But this involves a complex set of maritime regulations. If it is conclusively proven that Russia is responsible, there should be a discussion about the possibility of closing the Baltic Sea to safeguard our critical infrastructure.'

Finnish police are also investigating the Hong Kong-flagged vessel Newnew Polar Bear for potential involvement in the pipeline damage, as its movements coincide with the time and location of the incident.
