Really interesting piece on #chatgpt and it’s actual use by a student to cheat on a graded paper. Either anti cheat tools get MUCH better in more or less an instant - or teachers need to go back into in classroom exams again.

@teachpaperless thanks for sharing this piece.
A few things that immediately come to mind, as I expect to see lots more on the "rampant cheating" narrative coming from ChatGPT.

1) This story comes from the NY Post, what is their agenda and perspective?
2) I was wondering how long it would take to get stories on using other programs (which cost lots of $$$s) like Turnitin.com to police students (these softwares have long been problematized).
3) It's interesting that only 1 student appeared to be cheating, and they were easily caught by the instructor.
4) It was not surprising that the task students were asked to complete seems pretty rote and rudimentary (a regurgitation of an approach or facts) and how this task was not problematized in the article. There did not appear to be an analysis of providing students with a more complex or personal task that would have made AI less useful or interesting to use.

@ZingerLearns thanks for your input and I agree. I guess having the students repeat facts easily found facts (from the comfort of their homes) have really outlived itself and #chatgpt should be the final nail in the coffin.
As you suggest - we as teachers need to, for higher grades at least, ask the students more personal questions, and tying the answers together with past knowledges, classroom activities and personal opinions.
