Sorry for the language but WTF?

Let's not address how education should look in a world filled with continuously evolving AI, let's just pretend it doesn't exist.

Was just talking with some educators about this today.
The vast majority of energy around ChatGPT in education seems to be focusing on.
1) Regulating it, or limiting it.
2) Policing and monitoring its use. Thinking about all the ways students can use it to "cheat"
3) Avoiding critical analysis of it.
Where less energy is being spent
1) thinking about how it can be used formatively to improve student work
2) thinking about the low-level work that students are bombarded with that ChatGPT would nullify that we should have moved away from long ago
3) Ethical, privacy, and equity considerations about ChatGPT

I agree with the need to reevaluate assessment.
I just don't think that assuming students are "cheating" is a productive approach, it makes assumptions about students and shifts blame and responsibility to students, rather than
1) critically examine assessment, especially in the context of student worthy tasks, and
2) it assumes an adversarial relationship between students and teachers, rather than a community of learners working together to learn collectively.
