I’m really struggling with where I want to be socially in the post-Twitter eduverse.
Obviously any question asked directly on a platform will be biased toward people ON that platform, but still I want to know: where are you finding engaged teachers these days?
I do miss the large and engaged educator community I had on Twitter, and I have not reached nearly the same on here. I find I spend less time on socials in general and connect more with local teachers. I do hope that Mastodon can develop into the same rich educator community as there was on the bird.
One aspect I do not miss at all that I am glad is less likely to be sustainable here is the "edutainment" ecosystem with the snake oil salesmen.
@ZingerLearns Yeah, that's a great point. In my experience Mastodon, while I really wish it could become the post-twitter place, probably won't get beyond the people who are extra nerdy and willing to dive in. The learning curve is too steep for the average teacher and the idea of servers and where you should be are a big turn off. I love the idea of decentralized, but simplicity will always win.

My hope then is that those of us who are a little more tech savvy to invite, welcome, and support, teachers on here. In general, I have found this to be the case. The learning curve for me was not all that steep, but I am probably a poor judge of what the hump might be for others in contrast with the bird app or something like Instagram. I wonder if an enterprising educator or group of educators would create an instance specifically for teachers (don't think I have seen one yet), that would reduce that hump through various features and supports.
