It really sucks that humans invented electric cars and the first* thing we did was make them into luxury cars. Then the second thing we did was make them into big trucks and SUVs.
* I know EVs are super-old tech, but you know what I mean.
@ashfurrow Electric drive train & batteries & charger network were all very expensive when they first came out, so really what else could happen? The cars had to be expensive, and the Tesla S's 0-60 was so fast it made sense to make it a sports car.
Now they're dropping in price, but I still can't quite justify replacing my car, and might get another gas-burner if I have to.
@mdhughes if we wanted to solve climate change with EVs, we would make cheap+light vehicles. instead we got expensive+heavy(+fast) because we left it up to the market. domestic Chinese EVs are following the cheap+light route, so it is a choice.
@ashfurrow @mdhughes just think of the outrage if there were any sort of concerted effort to push cheap+light. Heads would have rolled.
Elective democracy means the politicians will largely be a manifestation of the id of the electorate.
