I have some questions for the #Minecraft players here.

What is the advantage of hosting my own #minecraft server? Would having a private server be something a 5-year-old would enjoy? I plan to learn to play, but I don't think it is a game that I would particularly enjoy. I'd be playing just to spend time with the kiddos, rather than them just quietly playing alone.

@mhamzahkhan Unless you're dead-set on managing it yourself, I highly reconmend making use of Minecraft Realms.

Otherwise, you're probably best with papermc.io/ for it's performance tweaks.

@mrvirite I'm not really dead-set on it, but the sysadmin part of me is itching to do it just because I love self-hosting 😂

But I'll definitely try Realms first.

On another note, originally I thought my kids would be into it, and I would not. In fact I found really very addictive after a while :) , especially in multi-player mode with the kids.

I now happily mine for hours on end for coal, iron and diamonds, while my kids focus on farming, fishing, and construction. An occasional joint expedition to the nether also provides a good dose of fear, excitement, and general teamwork practice.

@aebrockwell Interesting. I tried it years ago (maybe 2012) and I just couldn't get into it and found it quite dull. I'll give it a go though!
