It will be very tempting for Democratic centrists to try to convince themselves that they can win on gun control and abortion rights and little else.
But this would be falling into the same trap where Republicans now live: no economics.
I say centrists because they are the ones not fully on board with things like universal health care, free public college, extending the SS tax, etc.
I'm watching as they convince themselves they've solved it.
But without economics it just won't work.
@futurebird It's almost too late already. Hear me out. The only potential candidayes the media even mentions are Republicans. Have you heard any major cable network mention Gavin Newsome, or Tammy Duckworth? Bot are potential winners against DeSantis or Trump, but Biden barely beat Trump when it should have been a steaming landslide. We eother need to figure out how to nullify the GOP cheating, or find someone that Dems can get excited about the way Qanon is excited about Trump.
@futurebird I am with you. It is not enough to start the fear mongering and hope everyone vote democrat. We need to see results and so far it has been quite disappointing. The younger generations are replacing the baby boomer voters. Yet politicians still choose to ignore their issues.
@futurebird Yea that would certainly help, but Joe Average-voter wants a personality he can get excited about. We have about a year and a half to find something that the media will think is worth talking about. If the TV stations don't get something good, they will just keep talking about this nonsense "culture war" stuff. I like to be optimistic, but I'm also a realist. The fascists are organized and unified, whiule the average American is frazzled and over-worked.
@futurebird @ambulocetus You want the old guard to admit that Clinton's 3rd way bullshit was a nonstarter? Ha.
*cries*
@SallyStrange @futurebird No, but we have to try everything to beat the fascists. In a situation like the one we are facing, nothing should be off the table. We are diverse, so we can use diverse tactics. That is our strength.
@ambulocetus
I'm not that worried about presidential candidates. I just want to see democrats pick an economic issue and get unified behind it.
That could be medicare for all or free public college, or something else. (but something with more substance than just saying "no we don't want to delete SS") What about LOWERING the retirement age? Put it back to 65. Give people some sign they care about our bottom line.
