Proud of my public station for taking a stand. I deactivated my #Twitter account a few weeks ago & I haven’t Tweeted for months. There are many Twitter things I miss. There I easily connected with a lot of other BIPOC authors and publishing industry professionals. I also used that platform to reach 1000s of readers. I’m starting from scratch here and trying to figure it all out.
But it’s a tiny sacrifice considering Elon seems to trampling almost every principle held by decent people #birdsite
@kyra_davis I was never on Twitter, but I left Facebook a while ago. It's kind of like smoking; the longer you are away from it, the easier it gets. Yesterday I had to check somethign at Facebook, because sometimes you just have to, but I've been gone so long that I wasn't even tempted to stay and look around. I did what I had to do and left. By all accounts, Mastodon isn't a direct replacement for twitter, it's its own thing, but unless we sink into open civil war, Twitter will die and be replaced by something better. And hopefully it will sink Musk with it.

Yes, this is a pretty cool place.
I got here a couple of years ago, and there were some unsavory characters exploring whether this would be a good place for them, but they seem to have mostly gone away or else they stay confined to particular instances where they can be isolated. But mostly, if you don't go looking for it, you won't find it.
Another non-toxic social media is imgur.com if you like scrolling through memes.
