As a few others on this thread have pointed out we are talking about musicals-- which haven't been known for their incisive political commentary.

I'm a huge fan of "Oklahoma!" Which is arguably worse when it comes to mangling history--

But Oklahoma was written by two guys who never visited the state even once. And of course there's no mention of the massive displacement and land theft going on during that time.

@futurebird When you mentioned musicals with incisive political commentary, it reminded me of an unfinished musical by Jim Steinman that I heard some demos from. Unfortunately I couldn't find it on Youtube, but I did find a video that is a collaboration between Steinman and the famous director Ken Russell, based on Russell's segment in the compilation opera movie Aria. It's slightly NSFW though, so I won't post it unless you want to see it.
