the only thing I miss about having my epilepsy really well-controlled is the angels never talk to me any more :(

for real, I have the religious experiences and ecstatic visions type of epilepsy and I'm stubbornly atheist ama

@stavvers I had it when I was young. The kind they used to call Petit Mal. I think they call it something else now. I haven't had one in over 30 years though, so it feels like it's gone. I'm not going to mortgage my house for an EEG to find out for sure though. It kept me from joining the military, which I'm still not sure if that was a good thing or bad thing.

@ambulocetus DEFINITELY good thing you're exempt! A lot of people do grow out of epilepsy, they don't really know why. Petit mal now refers to a specific type of seizure where you lose consciousness and the religious one is a type of what's called a complex partial seizure (specifically, affecting the temporal lobe)

@ambulocetus honestly nothing really of note, all very "everything is great"

@stavvers @ambulocetus Well at least they were benevolent. That experience would scare me to death.
