I’m not seeing a lot of evidence that Canadians are going to be able to make it through the economic troubles without casualties and I wonder just how much “Canadians” are getting in subsidies to support them. I can’t imagine they’re getting by just based on regular income

Getting subsidies is an important part of it. You should be applying for gibs wherever you can, and putting it into things that'll last.

I’ve always just kept my savings in the bank but I don’t know how practical that is anymore…

That ain't doing nothing unless everything completely collapses, and even then there will be bigger immediate priorities. Otherwise, you're just losing money long-term to inflation and premiums.

maybe fire wood, depending on how much space you have. imho, any usable resource, like machinery also is good.
