@archaeohistories it's really amazing that 8000 years ago people managed to live there.
@iron_bug @archaeohistories indeed, i just looked at the current climate charts :)
Never heard of "Dumpokjauratj" and at first didn't think it was in Sweden. And well... It is in Samii territory... I have been to the nearby metroplois of Arjeplog, ~2000 people strong, and they have in the past offered cash payments for people to move there. I understand why, because I visited in the winter, when there are no mosquitoes eating you up.

In case you have no clue what summers are up there...
Personally, I am practically immune to the mosquitoes. I have some natural repellent built into my skin.

i only visited the middle of sweden in summer for a few times, it was ok with DEET. the video looks much worse than what i experienced :D

that's quite the luck :)
"Middle" ? I guess somewhere like Stockholm latitude... Only 1/3 the way. The mosquito problem starts heavily around Östersund and becomes worse and worse from there.
I think Evolution did it! Babies that the mosquitoes liked died, and my granddad was from the very far North (Gällivare), ~10 siblings, so.... ;-)

it really was the height of östersund, it's a quite beautiful landscape there :)

that's really up in the north :D wouldn't surprise me if there was selection for something like "mosquito resistence" :)
they find the remains of ancient people settlements in Siberia. so the climate was different.
