@kekkerel here it's rather dry so far with the occasional thunderstorm every other week which always bring heavy rain.
after "problems" with slugs last year i just planted the tomatoes in pods and placed those raised onto an old palette on a paved spot. used a few wood scraps and foil to build a little roof to protect them from said thunderstorms. worked pretty well so far to keep the slugs at bay.
now that i don't have a slug problem anymore, i have a mice problem xD
those mice are pretty quick, i don't think i'll hit them with my pellet gun ;)
i want to do more permaculture stuff anyway, but tomatoes are just too easy to grow. if only they stay on long enough without getting eaten :D
We've gotten an unbelievable amount of rainfall here.
Been out in the deluge pruning the tomatoes, trying to curtail the mold they've been developing before it spreads to other beds.
In my experience, at least, tomatoes will grow in a variety of different soils.
I'd suggest hardware cloth, honestly. Just to keep the varmints from climbing up. Either that or wake up early and shoot the little fuckers with a pellet gun or a 22.
