Anachronistic thinking too.
Like, what is the dossier even going to say? What can they do with it that they wouldn't do anyway, having already identified their targets?

In the old days you could find out someone is secretly gay and use that knowledge to threaten them. But nobody is secretly gay now.

Perhaps the creeps compiling dossiers live with a fear of their own awful bigotries being made public, but this is not a symmetrical situation. It's a dossier of principled acts.

@petealexharris @EllisCrawford then things get invented, evidence planted, ... it doesn't matter if the public likes someone.

you first compile a dossier then use that to look for incriminating things - or invent something which can't easily be proven as bullshit.

just look what the secret police of the GDR did.

@bonifartius @EllisCrawford
Sure, but they can do it anyway, and if they know who they want to victimise, they just will. A dossier is a weirdly old-fashioned menace when so much of our lives is public, really just a power-trip more than a useful tactic.
