#language is a wonderful thing. Here is Ngaio Marsh, writing in say 1936, a little piece of dialog intended to show how purely American the speaker is: "He looks more like a regular dick. An' yet if I worded him maybe he'd talk back like a bud's guide to society stuff. Is that so?"
