So as far as I can tell, e/acc ( #eacc I guess, "Effective Acceleration") which is the latest techbro idea, is that since we use resources to do things, some of which are desirable, it's a MORAL IMPERATIVE to use resources as quickly as possible. Thus hastening the heat death of the universe, when all possible resources have been converted to "utility", and everything is just a sea of featureless thermodynamic equilibrium without thought or life.
Great, billionaires in a suicide cult. 🤪
@ceoln More of a murder cult.
Good point
@ceoln like 'universal paperclips'?
Ha yes excellent example! It is hard for me to see how the AI in that scenario isn't exactly the thing that e/acc thinks is a moral imperative.
@ceoln Sigh.
Why do these techbros must define and defend the worst ideas available to them?
@ceoln
They think they're superior beings, and the rest of us don't matter. But they're useless POS.
@ceoln That will be extremely difficult to do when we make all conscious forms of life extinct.
If they actually wanted it, you'd think they'd act like it.
@ceoln That must be the name of the UK Prime Minister #RishiSunak 's plan to drain the North Sea of #oil and #gas: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jul/31/rishi-sunak-approval-100-new-north-sea-oil-and-gas-licences-fossil-fuel-climate-crisis
