Just because it's a thing now, apparently:
I've closed my #Facebook account years ago (around 2017 after the Brexit debacle and the election of US chief of Orange). I've closed my #Twitter account back when scambot Musk bought it. And just because I could not stand the spam anymore (and it was never of any use to me) I closed my #LinkedIn account earlier thia year.
Am I missing anything? No. Absolutely not.
I'm using Mastodon and Pixelfed for fun and some discussions and basically have that thing we all used to have before social media: a life.
Looking back, I did not profit at all from social media. It did not lead to good discussions most of the time (IRL discussions e.g. within my political activities were always much more fruitful) and it did not get me a job ever (but lots of random, non-fitting job agency requests). The web isn't the problem. Closed, ad-revenue dependent, scandalising networks are. If that's the blueprint for Web 3.0 and upwards we should fight it with everything we have.
And unionise, federalise the EU and organise against the fossil industry. 🤌
