'The authors found a link between asymptomatic infection and an HLA mutation carried by about 10% of the study’s population. People with the mutated gene were twice as likely to remain asymptomatic as were people without it; people with two copies of the gene were eight times as likely. “We were pretty stunned by the magnitude of the effect,” Hollenbach says.'

2)like CD59, DAF, or whatevs. This differential expression might create the impression that HLA-b*15:02 was a risk factor relative to HLA-b*15:01 when the more accurate interpretation would be that HLA-b*15:01 was actually more protective when against the mechanisms driving SJS due to increased Complement regulation.

1)Harumph. More T-cell garbage.
HLA-B*15:01 is a single nucleotide away from HLA-b*15:02, a Stephens Johnson Syndrome allele.
SJS is pretty complex. As with Covid, Complement is strongly implicated. Abnormal activity in C2 and C4, underexpression of Negative Regulators of Complement like DAF, CD59, et al. It is unlikely that an SNP is going to cause a condition as intricate as SJS, but SNPs are exactly the type of thing that can trigger over-expression of a single protein
