'When my college roommate concluded with a personality test that I was the “creative” type, the rest of my friends said that couldn’t be right, because “I was a scientist and therefore was not creative.” When I tell people I’m in a chemistry Ph.D. program, they often respond with something along the lines of, “I could never do that because I am more of the creative type.”

I've heard it sometimes too, unprovoked, as an Engineer, from people in the "creative professions", usually quite junior.
I suspect the underlying thinking is "You've got something we don't have so we must have something you don't have".
I think not only the logic is faulty, but both the conclusion and the premise are false.
