How similar do we sound? Can my accent be placed?
I'm not looking for praise or criticism or anything, there's nothing wrong with a detectable accent as long as people understand each other. I am however interested in accents and how they work, and I'm a very familiar specimen to me, while at the same time it's difficult for me to listen to myself objectively.
I do have internalized accent shame and accent pride, but I try to counteract it because I think it shouldn't have a place.
@clacke Didn't automatically jump out as Swedish, possibly diluted by other places you've lived and if you learned English via someone with a particular accent. Slight hint of German, maybe?
I've watched Mentour pilot before and I'd definitely spot him as Swedish, similar accent as the guy who does the Wintergatan music machine.
agree with @alysonsee - I work in a uni with colleagues from all over the world and the variety of accent is a joyous feature, not a bug.
