What does it mean to "know" a programming language? Not a philosophical or gotcha question, I really don't know how to evaluate it.
I haven't written C or Perl in maybe a decade, but used to teach them - do I count those?
I've reluctantly written some Javascript when necessary, by googling every step along the way, and imbibed something about it even if I wasn't trying to.
I "know" Common Lisp in that I can understand its syntax, but know none of its libraries, and wouldn't know what its development workflow looks like.
@digital_carver @urusan to be fair, I have the same questions about spoken languages. I can read books in French but I can't hold a conversation in the language. Do I know French?
