Microsoft is adding another useless key to the keyboard. This one is for activating its AI assistant. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2024/01/ai-comes-for-your-pcs-keyboard-as-microsoft-adds-dedicated-copilot-key/?utm_brand=arstechnica&utm_social-type=owned&utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social
@reidrac @dpwiz I use the win key a ton as mod key for my window managers (i3, sway), but for example I never use the menu key Microsoft introduced with the win key. Definitely I do not need a new key, and I don't like Microsoft deciding how PC keyboards must be (among many other things they impose, like having them signing the kernel if you want secure boot on Linux) based in their commercial interests.
@dpwiz @doragasu yes, but there's something wrong when a vendor dictates how keyboards look because their interests, in this case, AI?
Yes, we have a windows key that is meta anyway (or cmd in Mac), it existed in a different shape.
I don't know.
