this account is for Dr. Jason "Jay" R. Patton (aka EarthJay) and I march for science.

they are an engineering geologist (PG license 9758) who serves the public while at the California Geological Survey, Seismic Hazards and Tsunami programs. conservation.ca.gov/cgs/

he has been studying the tectonics of the Cascadia subduction zone (a convergent plate boundary fault system) for over 25 years (MS thesis at cal poly humboldt, dept geology). he is an adjunct professor at this dept. geology.humboldt.edu/

they studied marine sedimentary records (submarine landslide deposits called turbidites) of earthquakes offshore of Sumatra/Cascadia for my marine geology & geophysics PhD at oregon state university. ceoas.oregonstate.edu/

The price of Huggies diapers went up 6% between April- June 2023.

Inflation, right? Wrong.

Kimberly-Clark, the maker of Huggies, reported that the cost to make its products fell by $75 million.They took the money and ran, banking $168 million in operating profits in Q3 2023.

Now, new research shows that corporate profits drove 53% of inflation during the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2023. During the 40 years prior to the pandemic, profits drove just 11% of price growth.

I just learned about the carbonmapper.org site which maps out #methane leaks around the globe 🌎 using #satellite data 🤯

Methane is a potent #greenhouse gas (28x more potent than #CO2), and it needs to be flared off or otherwise mitigated.

This satellite #data has high enough resolution that you can clearly see the source in many cases. I just signed up for their mailing list.
