The Irish Department of Justice has today obtained a High Court order requiring telecoms companies to carry out mass surveillance of the entire population for one year, carrying over current illegal practice. This was done in a secret hearing, behind closed doors. 1/
@tjmcintyre@pluralistic I'm not familiar with whatever the current laws are, but this sounds like an order to retain data for at least one year. Unless someone/something is combing through that data, it's not really surveillance, is it? This sounds more like what a legal hold would be.
@XenoPhage@tjmcintyre@pluralistic when they take away one of your rights, they take away all your rights. We know from Snowden etc this data will be abused
